This is a problem only with certain models of SoundBlaster, and from reading

e-mail's Dave sent out about it earlier, the only way to deal with it is to load the commercial sound drivers for the card at www.opensound.com which carry a $20-$30 US price tag... The commercial drivers have some method of turning this off, is my understanding... but I've never done it, and Dave didn't document it anywhere that I'm aware of. -- Nate WY0X

I was reading through the code last night for the first time very seriously and finding it quite difficult to read through. (GRIN) No offense to Richard meant, of course... it works -- but it's not real pretty code... That's pretty familiar territory though, since that's just like *my* code. hahaha... Scalability-wise, MySQL's kinda ugly... it does full table locking every time a record is updated, so it tends to get slower exponentially as the table in question gets bigger... for a fixed number of updates. Then you add that we're adding new nodes that are updating so that number's actually climbing and not fixed, and ... well ... the status page has a while until it dies, but it's not as fast as it could be. :-) And so far, no one really wants to rewrite it of the people that could... it's a big project. -- Nate WY0X

No Audio after switch to Simplex
f.marks@...
Hey guys and gals I
have look at different setting in both the radio and
node, and still have
no audio Identifier when using DTMF codes on the
Amherst Node since I
switched over to a Simplex Freq.
If I use the Node
Keyboard and connect and disconnect the Audio files
play perfect, Whn I
use the DTMF codes they don't play on the Amherst
node end but do play
where ever I connect to, and the audio thru out the
conversation is
great.
The only thing not
working is the Audio Identifier letting us know when we
are connected and
when we disconnect.
Any Help on this one
would be appreciated ! ! !

here I would feel better. I hate talking about the code and prefixes to the entire world. Maybe, some owners don't have problems with folks interfering or even trying to hack their systems but others do and I think it is important that we keep those type of agreements off the general list. Glen

junk mail
fred@...
Well now that I have joined this group (have done this before on
yahoo) I expect that my email address will again be sold to the spam dealers. When it does and it will, I will be out of here and my address changed again. Yes I said "NO" to don't send me any junk mail. But Yahoo is the yellow pages of the internet they get paid, and sell information. When everyone else gets fed up with this one let me know I will be happy to host a closed list on my domain.. Fred

(ie I couldn't help you modify your radios, because we don't get them over here, and I'd expect the reverse to be true too. We use our VK IRLP list for that. (and should). Sound fair? I'm just awaiting a radio to be moded and our linking regulations to be clarified. Might be running it non-linked simplex. Cool Good luck Any comments welcome. Ron

Re: junk mail
ne1h@...
An I offer a suggestion. I'm on over 30 lists at Yahoo and *never*
get spam. The problem is which email address you use. You do not have to get a yahoo address to use this service, you can use any email address. If you register for a yahoo address, you run a much higher risk of getting "marketing material" sent to that address than if you use a "private email" address. You can minimize this effort if you make sure you "opt out" of any notification via that email address.... In the US, it's law now that you have to specify if or how you want such legitimate "marketing material". If you "opt out" and you still get it, you have legal recourse. But as I stated in the beginning, I have over 20 lists subscrbed and I *never* get spam to that email address (btw, it's a private mail address, not a yahoo, hotmail, etc). In my opinion, don't blame the subscription to the list, check your options and check what email address you signed up for and it's policy. my .02 Alan --- In irlp@y..., tlang@f... wrote: spam f> dealers. List purpose
ne1h@...
I'm not picking a fight here. Can someone state the purpose and
rules of this list. a) is it replacing the list run off of the irlp.net service? b) what is the intent. e.g. content rules? c) are there specifically dis-allowed conversations (sales, auctions, etc). I'd just like to make sure I don't step in a doo-doo pile before I know the intent. Thanks in advance. I'm a brand new node owner and working through the final efforts of installation. I'll have a family of repeaters here in Atlanta that will on the net shortly. Alan
