Re: How to disable the line in audio from passing through to the output in aumix?

Nate Duehr <nate@...>

This is a problem only with certain models of SoundBlaster, and from reading
e-mail's Dave sent out about it earlier, the only way to deal with it is to
load the commercial sound drivers for the card at www.opensound.com which
carry a $20-$30 US price tag...

The commercial drivers have some method of turning this off, is my
understanding... but I've never done it, and Dave didn't document it
anywhere that I'm aware of.

Is there a way in the software to disable the Sound Blaster LINE IN
audio from just passing through to the LINE OUT in the aumix settings
or in the IRLP software?

We are encountering feed back on node 346 whenever the phone patch is
used on the repeater apparently the port where we have the IRLP
connected to on our ACC controller is always listening to the phone
port and the audio is looping through the sound card because if we
disconnect the LINE IN or OUT the feed back goes away.

Which ACC controller? Open up the control panel for the Sound Blaster
and go to PLAYBACK settings...turn off LINE IN on that area...and save it.
I thnk there may be a way to write a script file to have that in a reboot.
Otherwise, there may be a better way to do it on the ACC Controller..
what model and exactly how do you have the audio IO hooked to the
controller?

Re: *new* individual list of whos on each reflector (updated)

Nate Duehr <nate@...>

Well, "done properly" is different things to different people.

I was reading through the code last night for the first time very seriously
and finding it quite difficult to read through. (GRIN) No offense to
Richard meant, of course... it works -- but it's not real pretty code...

That's pretty familiar territory though, since that's just like *my* code.
hahaha...

Scalability-wise, MySQL's kinda ugly... it does full table locking every
time a record is updated, so it tends to get slower exponentially as the
table in question gets bigger... for a fixed number of updates. Then you
add that we're adding new nodes that are updating so that number's actually
climbing and not fixed, and ... well ... the status page has a while until
it dies, but it's not as fast as it could be.

:-)

And so far, no one really wants to rewrite it of the people that could...
it's a big project.

Tom, the quote on the official site says :-

"This page created by Richard Whittaker (VY1RW) Using PHP, MySQL and
Apache". In other words it's done properly using sql :-)

My stuff is just a bunch of grep's and awk in a script that picks
bits out of a downloaded status page. In other words, a horrible
kludge :-)

Subject: [irlp] OT question of the day

Hi kids

Ok, here's one to scratch your heads about..First some background

I bought a used 40 foot free-standing tower, rated at 4 sq. feet of
windload at 70 mph winds with 1.5 cubic feet of concrete in the base. I
want to use this at my repeater site to get my antenna(s) up in the clear.
I'm putting a UHF Stationmaster up top, along with various link
yagis and a
VHF Stationmaster (for the 2 meter remote).

Ok, here's the question...

The antenna loading will be greater than the rated 4 sq. feet by the time
I'm done. The mounting of the tower will allow attachment to a building at
approx. the 15 foot level. I called factory this morning and asked if
mounting it this way will increase the windload capability and was told
that it would actually DECREASE it since it won't allow the free transfer
of loading to the base.

I'm no expert in physics or civil engineering, but this seems contrary to
everything I've ever read/seen about towers. I would be able to clamp the
tower through 2 legs to the building at this level.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Ken

No Audio after switch to Simplex

f.marks@...

Hey guys and gals I have look at different setting in both the radio and
node, and still have no audio Identifier when using DTMF codes on the
Amherst Node since I switched over to a Simplex Freq.

If I use the Node Keyboard and connect and disconnect the Audio files
play perfect, Whn I use the DTMF codes they don't play on the Amherst
node end but do play where ever I connect to, and the audio thru out the
conversation is great.

The only thing not working is the Audio Identifier letting us know when we
are connected and when we disconnect.

Any Help on this one would be appreciated ! ! !

I works. Now, if we can get these arguments off the general list serve on to
here I would feel better. I hate talking about the code and prefixes to the
entire world. Maybe, some owners don't have problems with folks interfering
or even trying to hack their systems but others do and I think it is
important that we keep those type of agreements off the general list.

I'm going to be brave. :-)

a) is it replacing the list run off of the irlp.net service?
Yes. I believe so.

b) what is the intent. e.g. content rules?
General info and selfhelp forum for IRLP owners. Sound fair?

c) are there specifically dis-allowed conversations (sales, auctions,
etc).
Hmm sales and auctions aren't really much good to me here in Oz,
although if anyone I guess wants to dispose of an IRLP board, I think
this could be a good place to advertise it. :-)

But please guys this is a worldwide list, so if it has a world wide
implication then it's fair. (ie I couldn't help you modify your radios,
because we don't get them over here, and I'd expect the reverse to be
true too. We use our VK IRLP list for that. (and should). Sound fair?

I'd just like to make sure I don't step in a doo-doo pile before I

Commonsense :-) We do have a mailing list here in Oz for our stuff,
currently it's full of licencing issues, which doesn't apply to anywhere
execpt Oz.

Thanks in advance. I'm a brand new node owner and working through
the final efforts of installation.
I'm just awaiting a radio to be moded and our linking regulations to be
clarified. Might be running it non-linked simplex.

I'll have a family of repeaters here in Atlanta that will on the net
shortly.
Cool Good luck

Re: junk mail

ne1h@...

An I offer a suggestion. I'm on over 30 lists at Yahoo and *never*
get spam.

The problem is which email address you use. You do not have to get a
yahoo address to use this service, you can use any email address.

If you register for a yahoo address, you run a much higher risk of
getting "marketing material" sent to that address than if you use
a "private email" address.

You can minimize this effort if you make sure you "opt out" of any
notification via that email address.... In the US, it's law now that
you have to specify if or how you want such legitimate "marketing
material". If you "opt out" and you still get it, you have legal
recourse.

But as I stated in the beginning, I have over 20 lists subscrbed and
I *never* get spam to that email address (btw, it's a private mail
address, not a yahoo, hotmail, etc).

In my opinion, don't blame the subscription to the list, check your
options and check what email address you signed up for and it's
policy.
