That's usually no drama, as long as you can get compatible levels. You'll have
to suck it and see, but often, merely wiring the soundcard directly to the mic
input works fine!

I just wire them together directly. If there's any problems, then I look at
adding resistive pads or other components.

So it's Rx audio -> line in
Line out to mic audio.

Connect with PTT lockup

Ed Yoho <edyoho@...>

Yesterday, one of the local users tried to connect to the Kitchener node
(241) while concurrently listening to their Real Audio feed.

When the node connected, my connect message came out of the Kitchener node,
and my node hung in transmit without locally playing a connect message.

Sending the disconnect command caused the disconnect wave file to be played
on Kitchener, no wave file locally, and the PTT released.
This was tried a couple of times with the same results.

I tried restarting the IRLP processes and the system hung during the
"Updating IRLP Filesystem" phase. After waiting around fifteen minutes, I
restarted the computer and all was normal again.

Has this happened to anyone else here, and if so, what was causing it?

Thanks,

Re: Connect with PTT lockup

Bret Mills <bmills@...>

My Node (327) did the same thing with Las Vegas and what I tracked it down to was that the Las Vegas NODE sends a MACRO after the connection is made as does mine, His controller RLC-1 Controller respondsto the IRLP MACRO with a BEEP BEEP for each command in the RLC-1 Macro.
My IRLP MACRO was sending DTMF to my RLC-3 which I had a voice message. I turned off my Voice anouncement on my RLC-3 Repeater controller and the problem went away except when timing is just right when people key up to quickly right after a connection.
THIS IS A IRLP problem which hasn't been addressed.
I sent several EMAILS about this on the reflector about 3 weeks ago when Kent and I were tracking it down.

Re: Connect / Disconnect Wave Files

Tony Langdon <tlangdon@...>

This was discussed awhile back and I believe Dave was thinking of just
setting up the nodes to play their own message when connected
to. I believe
the issue was having to upload all these files each time the
update due to
all the new nodes. The more nodes that come on line the large
that file
becomes and the more uploading Dave has to do. I believe that
in the future
we will see a different system.
Unfortunately, the WAV files are one of the features the authorities here
love about the system, as they identify the remote system in use. It would
be a pity to lost that facility. Is there any system that can put them
together using synthesized voice perhaps. You will lose a bit of that
"personal touch", but keep the functionality.

Alternate strategies incluse using compression on the WAV files - ADPCM,
GSM, perhaps even MP3, to keep their size down. Also, perhaps have an
automated synchronisation process so that once a node is registered, it
participates in a lot of audio file swapping, keeping its own audio files up
to date with the master server, or even on a peer-peer basis.

Can someone please send me a web site that has the custom scripts there are

Dave was discussing the idea of converting the wavs to a different
format. The issue is not a big one. The IRLP installation kit has a
snapshot of the latest wav file directory. Version 2.0.9 of the IRLP
cd can be downloaded on line and has the latest snapshot.

I did an install last night and they tgz was 7mb....

Also, if the load gets too great on IRLP.net, Dave has access to
reflector 5 to load all of teh IRLP installation software onto it for
download...its then simply a change to the IRLP install script...

What am I doing wrong?

ne1h@...

I want to extend my timeout value on inactivity.

I've edited the timeoutvalue file in the custom directory to include
the value 10800 (3hours).

I then directly connect to a sister node and the system always times
out in 4-6 mins. What have I done wrong.

Nothing, from what I can see, but both ends maintain a timeout timer, and if
the other end's timer is set to (say) 5 minutes, AND, there is no local
activity on that end of the link, it will initiate the disconnection from
your node.
